Few words from the history of the hotel:
First references to this hotel come from the year 1307. Unfortunately, the older informations have not been saved, because of fire. This house was called "White Lion" and was known as a retreat for the travelers, who came to The Old City in the late evenings hours without the possibility to enter the city through the City Gate (in the nowadays called The Powder Gate). This Gate used to be closed every day at dusk.
In the 17th century, even the son of the empress Marie Terezie, the emperor Josef II spend a night here. In honor of him the hotel was re-named to : The City Vienna. This hotel which became well-known and much frequented spot in the 19th century, offers 88 comfortable rooms at the present.
